Luis Austria Mamitag, Jr. graduated from FEATI University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and passed the Civil Engineering Board Examinations in May of the following year. He had passed the Civil Service Sub-Prof Examination in 1976 and while already a casual employee with the Bureau of Public Works from March of that same year. He started as C.E. Aide I and II and then Civil Engineer with the Bureau in 1978 to January of 1979 before he became Senior Civil Engineer for the then-Ministry of Public Works and Highways (MPWH). He became Supervising Civil Engineer I in December, 1979 then to Supervising Civil Engineer III (Chief Planning Section) and Project Manager for the now-Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), PMO-Palawan IAD Project.in the 1980’s. Engr. Mamitag also held the posts of Engineer V, Director III and OIC Bureau Director with the Bureau of Research and Standards, DPWH. In recent years, he has been the Assistant Regional Directot (DPWH Region III); Project Director for DPWH – CANAVA-PMO and from July 14, 2004, has held the post of Director IV for the DPWH’s Bureau of Maintenance.
Engr. Mamitag has a long and impressive record of achievements with DPWH (and the former MPWH) including the implementation of various government infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, flood control, school buildings, water supply development, etc. He has also delivered seminars and lectures on such matters as concrete/asphalt technology; quality control processes; road maintenance and others. He has also been a Project Adviser for DOST-MIRDC and was also an instructor from 1980 to 1982 at the National University teaching Engineering Mechanics and Theory of Structure. He has also held Vice Chairmanship in DPWH committees and various memberships related to his field.
