Distinguished FEATI alumnus named 2010 Metals and Engineering Man of the Year
Dr. Ceferino L. Follosco was awarded the Machinery Fabricator of the Year and Metals and Engineering Man of the Year by the Metals and Engineering Industry Foundation, Inc., the Metals Industry Research and Development Center, and the Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development during the Metals and Engineering Week held on June 14 – 18, 2010.
The Metals & Engineering (M&E) Man of the Year award is given to recognize a person with extensive experience in M&E industry and who has made important contributions to the industry, has shown proven leadership qualities, has established his integrity and demonstrated his commitment to highest professional standards with his outstanding professional achievements.
Prior to receiving the M&E Man of the Year Award, Dr. Follosco has been the recipient of several awards that include The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Awardee for Science, Technology and Engineering (2001), PRC Outstanding Professional Agricultural Engineer (1982) and the ASEAN Engineering Award (1966).
Among the positions he held are Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (1989-1992), Undersecretary of Department of Trade and Industry (1986-1989), Governor of the Board of Investments (1986-1989) and Vice-President for Manufacturing of Ford Philippines (1969-1975), where he led a team that produced the first Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) which became known as Ford Fiera.
Dr. Follosco is currently the Chairman of the Engineering Sciences and Technology Division of the National Academy of Sciences and Technology, which conferred him the title Academician in 2001 for his outstanding achievements in the fields of agricultural mechanization and automotive engineering.
At present, Dr. Follosco is the Chairman of the Board of the C.L. Follosco Group of Companies, which has ten subsidiaries and is currently a main player in agricultural engineering and innovation.
He earned his degrees in Mechanical Engineering (1953), Electrical Engineering (1955) and Master in Management (1963) from FEATI University. (KAL)
