FEATI U banners outstanding top students in fields of maritime, aeronautics, arts and sciences

STA CRUZ, Manila – Teachers are often considered as second parents to their students because they do not only mentor them academically but they also give them advice on personal matters and some times even affairs of the heart!

Realizing the important role teachers play on and off campus, FEATI University celebrated the World Teacher’s Day on October 5, 2017 at the Corporate Reception Lobby by giving a simple treat to all the teachers of FEATI University.

“Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers: Coffee Break with Teachers” was a short and meaningful program for the faculty members of the University.

“Generally speaking, the term ‘Teacher’ refers to someone teaching in school but allow me to elaborate on what I think a teacher is; he or she is the one that has taken a vow of poverty, who loves to teach, who has mastery and full knowledge of the subject being taught, who can motivate students to be learners, and who can act as counselor to students on academic and non-academic matters, among others,” said FEATIU EVP for Academic Affairs and Chairman of the Board Dr. Leopoldo V. Abis, in his inspirational message at the occasion.

Dr. Abis continued by saying that teachers who are offered twice or thrice their teacher’s salary in a different line of work but who still choose to continue teaching are practically turning away from the opportunity of earning because they find a different kind of satisfaction in teaching.
Because learning is very important in molding the minds of students to prepare them for the ‘real world’ and be successful in their chosen fields, teachers more often than not make sacrifices in terms of time and effort just to make their students perform well.

“Aside from being a designated student adviser, a teacher, in general, should try to learn whether or not students have problems in academic and/or non-academic matters because these problems could be the reasons why students have poor performance in class. To achieve this there should also be interaction with colleagues to develop good working relationships with other teachers, students and the administration and be a member of the Team,” concluded Dr. Abis.

Indeed, there is no equivalent value to the amount of knowledge and experiences that the teachers can and do share with their students. Some look up to their professors as heroes. Others emulate them and become engineers, architects, mariners and pilots themselves, therefore giving pride to their teachers. In this light it is just fitting for the entire FEATI University community to pay tribute to the students’ ‘second parents’.
