FEATI alumnus Maglaya awarded the 2017 PRC Most Outstanding Mechanical Engineer

STA CRUZ, Manila – Dr. Archie B. Maglaya, a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering graduate of FEATI University, was awarded the 2017 PRC Most Outstanding Mechanical Engineer for his exemplary contribution to his profession.The prestigious award was given to Dr. Maglaya during the celebration of the 65th anniversary ofthe Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) on October 18, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.Dr. Maglaya, through his many years in the practice of his profession, has raised the bar of excellence for mechanical engineers of his peers and also served as inspiration to new graduates with his unrelenting pursuit for academic enrichment, innovation and research to new fields of study like pollution control and environment protection, energy and alternative fuels, and alternative materials and testing of mechanical engineering laboratory equipment, among others.Delving into energy technology as an apprentice engineer, Dr. Maglaya earned his Bachelor’s degree from FEATI University in 1979 and from then on, his hunger for knowledge earned him his post-graduate degrees, further strengthening his technical expertise.

He pursued special studies in Production Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering at the Loughborough University of Technology, Leicestershire, England.Through his entire career, from the time of his graduation from FEATI University to this day, Dr. Maglaya adhered to the ideals and core values inculcated in him by his alma mater: integrity, scholarship, accountability, equality and patriotism.These attributes led Archie, as he is fondly called by his friends and peers, to achieve greater heights and receive many accolades from distinguished institutions and organizations in recognition of his contributions to the development of the mechanical engineering profession. Dr. Maglaya is presently a Full Professor and Community Engagement Project Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the De La Salle University.

He is also International Technical Adviser and Consultant of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Educational Capacity Development of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC). For the other hats he wears, Dr. Maglaya holds various positions, some of which are as follows: Chair ofthe PSME Continuing Professional Development Plenary and Technical Papers Review and Screening Committee; Adviser of Students’ Conference and Engineering Educators Congress; representative of PSME to the Philippine Technological Council Educational Accord in Washington Accord, Sydney Accord and Dublin Accord; member of the Editorial Board for the Research Area on Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering/New & Renewable Energy of the ASEAN Engineering Journal; and Accreditor of Mechanical Engineering Education Program to ensure ASEAN and Global Standards.With all the recognitions given to Dr. Maglaya, he remains grounded to this day and for his fellow FEATInians he the model of a Filipino Mechanical Engineer, academician, scientist, mentor, and a true servant leader, a real and honest-to-goodness FEATInian through and through.  (FEATI News) ’ ‘second parents’.
