FEATI honors shipping industry partners, outstanding seafarers and alumni

MALATE, Manila – Leading shipping and manning companies were recently honored by the FEATI University for their unwavering support to maritime education and the maritime industry in the Philippines today.

FEATI University, the leading maritime and aviation school in the country, conferred plaques of appreciation to15 companies for their invaluable assistance to FEATI University in hosting maritime student cadets and providing scholarships and sponsorships for the College of Maritime Education. These partner companies have dedicated themselves to improving maritime services making the Philippines a leader in the industry. The momentous event was dubbed CME Recognition and Awards Night held on July 4, 2017 at the Palacio de Maynila in Malate, Manila.

The companies given the special recognition as FEATI Maritime Industry Partner were Abosta Ship Management Corporation, Anglo-Eastern Crew Management Phils. Inc., Galant Maritime Service Inc., Klaveness Maritime Agency Inc., Manila Shipmanagement & Manning Inc., Marlow Navigation Philippines Inc., MST Marine Services (Phils) Inc., Philippine Transmarine Carriers Inc., Reinier Pacific International Shipping Inc., Sea Guardian Maritime Corporation, Trans Star Shipping Agency Corporation, and Wallem Maritime Services Inc.

Welcomed as new FEATI Maritime Industry Partners were Crewcare, Inc., Epic Gas Crewing, Inc., Netship Management, Inc., and Pacific Ocean Manning, Inc.

No less than FEATI University CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees Francisco A. Segovia and President Dr. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez handed the plaques and thanked the companies for their valuable contribution to maritime education and uplifting the standards in the industry.

“This is the first time we will be honoring our outstanding alumni,” said Capt. Hernando Eusebio, Deputy to the CEO on Maritime Affairs, who was also on stage to congratulate the awardees.

On the same occasion, FEATI honored its outstanding alumni and cadets who have been instrumental in propelling the FEATI University and the College of Maritime Education (CME) to where it is now; at the top of the heap. The awardees bestowed with the FEATI Maritime Professional Award were C/E Daniel Africa, Capt. Jaime Aquino, Capt. Alberto Bartilad, Capt. Ireneo delos Santos, and Capt. Leopoldo Tenerio.

The prestigious FEATI Maritime Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Admiral Reuben S. Lista, president of the Philippine National oil Company (PNOC) represented by PNOC PRO Roberto Villa.

Other alumni who received the FEATI Maritime Alumni Award for their exemplary performance in their profession were Capt. Antonio Amo, whose award was received on his behalf by Guillermo Badiola Jr., Capt. Amado Castro Jr., Capt. Antonio Ladera III, Capt. Alfonso Ligera Jr., Capt. Gregorio Sialsa and Chief Mate Pedro Tiongson.

FEATI University officials also recognized students of the Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering programs that included 62 CME midshipmen, 42 aspiring deck officers and 20 aspiring engineers, who have completed the three-year academic requirements and are now preparing for the 12-month shipboard training. Aside from recognizing the top five finishers in both programs, the four Red Hat awards were also given to the students in each program and year level with the highest average for the past school year, provided their averages are higher than 2.0. Also recognized were working students with good academic performances for embodying the values of perseverance and hard work.

“As seafarers you’re not only there to represent yourself, you are there to represent the country as ambassadors. So wherever you go, anything you do, you will speak about our country. So please bear with your heart and mind, when you go out there to the oceans, sail with the positive values that this institution taught you,” said STCW Office Executive Director Atty. Vera Joy Ban-eg who represented MARINA Administrator Dr. Marcial Quirico C. Amaro III.

Now on its 71st year of providing high quality maritime education, FEATI University continues to further improve the quality of its faculty and facilities to meet international standards that is why it is no surprise that the institution has remained a top producer of excellent graduates and alumni who have become “captains of industries and the seas” for the past seven decades.
