FOUNDERS' DAY 2013
Following tradition, FEATI University observed the 106th birthday of its grand dame, founder and president, Victoria Lopez de Araneta (VLA), and paid tribute to founding president Salvador Zaragoza Araneta (SZA). Although it was VLA who was largely prominent in the university’s day-to-day operations, SZA’s looming support in the background was instrumental to the university’s success.
Together, they made FEATI University one of the most admired universities in the country. When Martial Law shocked the country in the 1970s the business of education, and the business climate in general, found itself on shaky grounds but FEATI weathered the economic storm and recovered largely because of the sound foundation laid out by its founders. They may have left this earth a long time ago but the FEATI family continues to observe Founders’ Day on VLA’s birthday, a day marked with celebratory musical tributes, speeches, cupcakes, and a huge birthday cake. This year, on March 7, FEATI was joined by family representative Ms. Ging Segovia, the lovely and charming wife of beloved CEO, Francisco “Fritz” A. Segovia.
Dr. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez, the university president gave a message on the “Vision of Our Founders” by drawing from the significant achievements of the founding couple. He concluded that the couple’s vision is that of “a strong and self-reliant Filipino, who is the equal of anyone in the world”. The suave and cool Louis Virtusio, resident university crooner and a favorite of both the young and seasoned crowd, then gave a serenade. An on-the-spot sketching competition was also held to further liven up the event. Sentimental and simple, thus was FEATI Founders’ Day celebrated this year. (AMD)
