FEATInian Artists in “Art in the Park”: A Big Success

FEATInian student artists once more proved that they could pursue their passion for the arts and earn from it. Both from rave reviews and from the number of artworks sold the participation of the FEATI School of Fine Arts students in the annual "Art in the Park" in Salcedo Village, Makati on February 27 can be described as “a big success”. Most of the masterpieces they exhibited were sold to visiting patrons.

"It's an honor to be invited yet again in Art in the Park. We have been part of this yearly event now for four straight years since it started in 2006," says Neil M. dela Cruz, SFA faculty member. He said that more than 20 of their artworks were sold during the one-day affair, surpassing even their own expectations. He was quick to add that, more importantly, they were there "to advance their knowledge as well as to hone the talents of budding artists [such as their students] through exposure to the trends [in the art industry]."

The Museum Foundation of the Philippines has been annually organizing the art fair which has featured local and international artists and galleries. For this year, 2009 Ateneo Art Award winner Jan Leeroy New reprised pieces from his Odeon Universal Galaxy Show.

Apart from FEATI University, students from the Technological University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University also exhibited their work. Other exhibitors were art groups and individual artists: CANVAS, Zone 5 Camera Club, Kulay, SC Tan, TutoK, Art Wednesday, Invisible, Putik, Joey Cobcobo, Ryan Rubio, Allain Hablo, Lester Almacio, Mac Valdezco, Philippine Association of Printmakers, Ral Arrogante, Sheer Joy, Ang INK, Provenance Fine Arts Brokers, and Tara Soriano.

Established galleries that were invited include Blanc Gallery, Tin-Aw, Tala Art Gallery, Galerie Astra, Nova Gallery, Galeria de las Islas, Metro Gallery, Art Verite, Ricco Renzo, West Gallery, Artis Corpus, Avellana Art Gallery, Art Cabinet, and Gallery Genesis.

It will be recalled that the FEATI School of Fine Arts, in cooperation with several invited guest artists held a 15-day exhibit at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Gallery in Intramuros, Manila from January 15 to 31. “Constructing Secrets, Thoughts and Memories: Aspects of Postmodern Practice,” featured modern and post-modern art pieces ranging from acrylics and oils on canvas, sketches, pencil drawings, photos and art installations.
