FEATI UNIVERSITY PRESENTS WINNING RESEARCHES AT DOST EXPO SCIENCE 2011
The SMX Convention Center became the host venue for the Department of Science & Technology's (DOST) Expo Science 2011, the "1st Philippine Science, Technology, and Engineering Exposition" underscoring the future of Science and Technology in the Philippines, the important contributions of science and technology in the country, and its significance to the Filipinos.
FEATI University joined the four-day expo, from July 27-30, 2011, by presenting the university's researches on Accuracy Assessment and Calibration of an Aster Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) Over a Mountainous Region and Integrated Open-Source Geographic Information System (GIS) in a Computerized Blotter System. Both prize-winning researches are from the University's Geodetic Engineering (GE) Department and were the result of the hard work of GE students and faculty advisers. Incidentally, these researches had been submitted by Dr. Ma. Cecilia R. Paringit, Chair of the GE department for possible funding by the DOST.
Also included in the exhibit was the University's IT Department winning gaming project on "Pasig River Rescue: An Edutainment Mobile Gaming on the Rehabilitation of Pasig River" which was presented on stage by Prof. Al D. Sabiaga, with IT Department Chair Engr. Jovy L. Factor giving full support. Meanwhile, the FEATI Office of Research Development & Extension (ORDE) exhibited the FEATI University-led U-Belt Consortium research project "Pasig River Stewardship through Science, Technology, and Advocacy" funded by the Department of Science and Technology.
FEATI University president Dr. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez, a member of the DOST Steering Committee, joined President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III and officials headed by DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo on stage for the ceremonial switching of the digital exhibit that served to formally open the DOST Exposition. A keynote message underscoring the importance of science and technology was delivered by the President immediately before the ceremonial switching. A good number of exhibitors from different universities and technology-based companies representing the private sector, local government officials, as well as members of the diplomatic corps of various embassies attended the opening ceremonies.
