The University, on its 65th year as an academic institution, recently concluded a series on Values Formation for engineering students from 2nd to 5th year levels. The series was undertaken by the College of Engineering following the guidelines from the Values Formation Committee composed of Dr. Gloria Mateo-Alberto, EVP for Development and Compliance; Sr. Nicetas M. Favorito, DC, Dean of Student Affairs; Dr. Milagros P. Navarro, Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education; Asst. Prof. Salvacion T. Sacaguing, Chairperson of the Communication Arts department; and Ma. Elena M. Yang, University Registrar.
“This was especially customized for our students to help them realize their full potential as students, members of the Filipino community, and role models in the family. We would like our students to experience values formation modules even while they pursue their professional academic courses in FEATI. There’s a separate Values Formation series for engineering freshmen, which is part of their orientation into the University. The program for the more senior students was piloted at the College of Engineering (COE), which has the biggest student population,” says Dr. Rogelio A. Panlasigui, COE Dean and ORDE Director.
“After our successful run with the COE, we are moving on to the rest of the student population this 2012. Students from Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering were very responsive to these sessions. This further fueled our desire to continue holding the series so that our students become transformed individuals prepared for the complex professional and moral challenges outside the University,” added Dr. Alberto.
The Values Formation series is comprised of topics covering the FEATI mission and vision; one’s self-awareness; the integrity of the Filipino; the culture of scholarship; accountability; responsibility, decision-making, and critical thinking; speaking and listening; social graces at home and away; and healthy living and healthy habits. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) present these topics in detail in several sessions lasting up to a day held at the University activity center. Q&A and sharing concludes the different sessions. (AMD) |
