Library Resources & Sections of the Library

    • Home- Reading Books @ General Circulation Section

The General Circulation Section is the biggest section of the library.  It houses the majority of the books in the library.  Its main function is to provide maximum service to library patrons. This may include registering new library patrons, lending, receiving returned books, reserving, and shelving of library materials in a timely and accurate manner.

    • Reference Books @ General Reference Section

The General Reference Section contains reference materials such as encyclopedia, handbooks, guides, directories, yearbooks, almanacs, and maps. Reference books are usually not read straight through, but are only referred to when needed.  Thus, these items are not for home-reading so that they are always available for use in the library

    • Textbooks @ Reserve Section

Course-included readings and textbooks are placed at the Reserve Section on request of faculty members teaching the subject. Because of the limited number of copies per textbook, reserve books are for overnight- use only and for-room-use only within the day.

    • Serials @ Periodicals Section

Include magazines, newspapers, journals, both current and past issues in bound volumes. For professional reading of degree courses, the library subscribes to a least 2 journal titles. The Serials Section has created new products which supplement the available research materials. These are:

Clippings File

Selected news cut from three daily newspapers: The Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, and Philippines Daily Inquirer

Vertical File

These are publications which the library receive for free or attached to magazines as supplements. Examples of such print materials which are serial in nature are annual reports, government papers, brochures, seminar/conference papers, flyers, etc. Usually less than 100 pages, these are not cataloged as books but classified by subject, placed in folders and filed alphabetically in drawers for easy reference.

    • Local Publications @ Filipiniana Section

Books about the Philippines, authored by Filipinos and published in the Philippines are shelved together in one area.

    • American Studies @ American Shelf

Just like the books about the Philippines in the Filipiniana Section, American Shelf is another special collection of the library which is housed separately from the general book collection. Located right across the library main entrance door, the American Shelf displays various publication American culture, customs, politics, economy and government. These were donated by the Thomas Jefferson Information Center to member libraries of the Intramuros Consortium.

  • Audio Visual & Electronic Resources @ Internet & Multimedia Collection Section

Aside from Internet access, the Multimedia Collection Section contains CD-ROM files, VHS tapes, slides, etc.

Electronic Databases

Aiming to transform the library from purely traditional to electronic center of information resources, negotiations are on-going to avail of trial access to noted international electronic databases.

Gale Virtual Reference Library, Educator’s Reference Complete, Academic OneFile, Infotrac Computer Database

Produced by Gale and Thomson Publishing and distributed locally by Ce-Logic Inc., the library was given access to these databases until December 2007.
